Apparently, a self-important college freshman attending a recent football game took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generation.
'You grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one', the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear. The young people of today grew up with;
Television
Jet planes
Space travel
Man walking on the moon
Our space probes have visited Mars
We have nuclear energy, ships and electric and hydrogen cars
Cell phones
Computers with light-speed processing...and more.'
After a brief silence, the senior citizen responded as follows:
'You're right, son. We didn't have those things when we were young........so we invented them. Now, you arrogant little shit, what are you doing for the next generation?'
The applause was amazing.......
Television: "Desperate Housewives", Fox News, etc - so this is supposed to be an improvement over Shakespeare's Globe Theatre?
ReplyDeleteJet planes: 200 years ago the Americans who traveled several weeks by ship to England stayed there for a long time and learned more than they do today on ten day package tours of the Tower of London and visits to fake pubs where the real English don't hang out. In many ways, inter-continental communications used to have more depth precisely because of the slower speed.
Space travel,
Man walking on the moon:
They brought back rocks. Big deal.
Our space probes have visited Mars:
They took photos of what? A lot of sand?
We have nuclear energy:
As Homer Simpson would say, "Ka-BOOM!"
ships and electric and hydrogen cars:
Hardly anyone uses them and hydrogen energy is a myth.
Cell phones:
Idiotic conversations and bad manners.
Computers with light-speed processing:
Processing semiliterate rubbish, for the most part.
